Strategy games that don't need a server to think
Live strategy games can be great, but they die the moment you lose signal. Offline strategy is a different, calmer pleasure — it's just you against the game's logic.
Ironvale Command is my go-to example. It's all local: your campaign, your saves, the AI. There's real satisfaction in solving a defense puzzle with no clock pressuring you from a server somewhere.
If you're new to the genre, start with the shorter skirmish modes before the campaign. They teach the systems without a huge time investment.
The trade-off with offline strategy is smaller maps and simpler AI than big online titles, but honestly, for a commute or a flight that's exactly what you want.
